Federal government money-- as a means to destroying the Mackenzie Valley and many of the nations who live within it-- in order to send the gas south to Alberta to (stop me if you've heard this one) destroy the livable biosphere and the people living within it. This is the "alternative" to letting what should die die, i.e., the Mackenzie Gas Project, if left to its own market based devices.

An Alberta-based energy company is eyeing Peace River to be home to a nuclear power plant to provide clean, emission-free power for the growing oilsands.

To achieve the goals being set out by these scientists-- who are perhaps still acting *conservatively* in what they collectively state needs to be done to achieve a healthy biosphere-- we need to speak as plain as day:

This new port development, lauded as a part of a Canadian strategy to open up a Gateway to the Asia Pacific, is all a part of the new plans to make northern BC-- in Prince Rupert and further into the shoreline at what is commonly called Kitimat-- a major hub for bringing in diluent fuels from Russia while shipping Tarsand mock oil to China and California.

In 2005, Americans sat before our television sets, horrified by images of an
American city underwater. In 2006, we sat in the nation's movie houses,
watching Al Gore make the case for urgent action. In 2007, Americans are
finally rising from our seats and demanding action to reverse global

The approval of the port in Gitimaat ["Kitimat"] needs to be rescinded. This port is completely useless if there is a shipping moratorium, and with a port approval it is politically much harder to imagine both the maintenance of the shipping ban (building a port is for use) and to prevent the construction of the Enbridge Gateway Pipeline.

Before the corks are popped and the bubbly pouring, let us recall that this pipe has been declared "dead" more times than Elvis Presley. At the end of the Berger Inquiry from the 1970's, there was a moratorium placed on this pipe until A) final agreements [sic] were established with all nations from the Valley; B) protected areas and proper environmental plans for the rest were laid out.

The schemes around water need a scrutiny that does not trust in panels. With the slow-privatization of water underway with the selling of "water access rights" to farmers in southern Alberta, soon there will be a situation where perhaps GATT could kick in, and no purchaser can be discriminated against. In other words, on the current trends pathway we are headed to making it illegal to regulate how much water gets wasted.
